My little fox terrier, Bella, likes to sleep on top of the back of the couch. I'm not a huge fan of this, so I needed to find her another comfy spot to sleep. I found this old suitcase at Goodwill for $4. Along with some old pillows, spray paint and cute fabric, I made a chic dog bed for Bella for under $20. Here is how I did it:
Supplies:
Suitcase
Spray Paint
Painters Tape
Carpenters Knife
1 yard of fabric
2 old pillows
Small Metal brackets
Small screws
Wooden finials
Hot Glue
First, tape off the areas of the suitcase you don't want paint. Spray paint 2-3 coats of paint. Seal with clear acrylic spray paint.
Using the carpenter's knife, trace the edges of the tape before peeling it off. This will keep the paint lines smooth.
Measure the inside of the suitcase and height of pillows to cut out fabric.
I wanted my pillow to be a slip cover so that I could wash it, so I cut the bottom piece of fabric in half.
You should have 7 pieces of fabric total: four sides, a top and two bottoms.
Sew all four sides to the four sides of the top piece of fabric. Be sure to not sew the side seams together yet.
Once all four are sewn together, sew all four corners so that your cover starts to form a box.
Last, sew the two bottom pieces to the cover, but don't sew the center.
If desired add feet to your suitcase.
